The current chief of the Cumberland House Cree Nation is not seeking re-election for his position.

Rather, Walter Sewap is running for council in the upcoming band election.

There are four new candidates running for the position of chief — Jennifer Stewart, Lorne Stewart, Peter Laliberty, and Robert McKay.

Eleven people are running for four positions on band council, including two incumbents.

The election will take place on March 30th.

The winners will serve three-year terms in office.
