A new organization is being formed in the province to act as an advocate for Metis women.
Darlene McKay of Prince Albert’s Metis Local 7 is one of the founding members of Les Filles de Madeleine.
McKay says it has received $40,000 from the federal Department of Heritage to help it get up and running.
According to McKay, the group’s mandate is to give Metis women a bigger voice in political, social, cultural and economic issues.
She says up until now, Metis women in Saskatchewan haven’t had an agency they could rely on.
McKay says any one wanting to be involved with the group should attend a general meeting on March 25th at the Cosmo Lodge in Prince Albert.
