Northern NDP candidate Anita Jackson was in Winnipeg today with NDP leader Jack Layton to announce 12 Aboriginal-specific initiatives focused on benefiting Indigenous people in Canada.

Jackson says Layton is committed to the compensation of all Aboriginal residential school survivors. She added that the NDP believes its time for the government to accept responsibility for residential school abuse against Aboriginals.

Jackson says if the NDP is elected to government on January 23rd, the Prime Minister will apologize in the House of Commons to all First Nation, Métis and Inuit survivors, something that has yet to be done by the Government.

Jackson says the NDP party will also commit more funding for Aboriginal health and housing.
