Students at North Battleford’s Sakewew High School are planning an empowerment gathering to be held in mid-September.
For the past couple of years, they’ve been learning about the dangers of substance abuse, and other issues like suicide.
The high school’s cultural coordinator, Celeste Tootoosis, says they now want to share what they’ve learned with other First Nations students.
Tootoosis says six to eight youths commit suicide in the reserves surrounding the Battlefords every year.
It’s hoped the gathering will result in ideas and action to give hope to First Nations youth.
