The provincial government is providing the University of Saskatchewan with a $100,000 grant to help with a building expansion project for the Native Law Centre.

Justice Minister Frank Quennell says the university’s College of Law is the leading educator of Aboriginal lawyers in the country.

Quennell says making this type of donation to further their advancement and education is considered a positive investment by the province.

He adds the government’s goal is to see more Aboriginal people involved in all aspects of the justice system.

Quennell also points out the new state-of-the-art building will better accommodate the needs of the Native Law Center, with better classrooms, multi-media capabilities and enhanced student support services.

The total cost of the expansion project is estimated to be upwards of $8 million.

The expansion is slated to be complete sometime next year.
