Native Inmate Killed Hours After Being Transferred

An investigation is underway at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert after a prisoner died in a violent incident there last night.

34-year-old David Duane Pasqua of the Regina area was serving a 15-year sentence for a variety of offenses, including armed robbery and attempted murder.

Warden Brenda Lepage says Pasqua arrived at the institution earlier in the day on a transfer from Quebec, only to die around 9:30 that night in a fight.

She refuses to speculate whether or not the matter is gang related.

The unit where the incident occurred is still in lockdown.

No arrests have been made.
