Canada’s premiers and territorial leaders have invited Aboriginal groups to be a permanent fixture at Council of the Federation meetings.
The leaders of five national Aboriginal organizations met with the premiers for two hours today at the Council of the Federation meeting in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Native Women’s Association of Canada President Beverley Jacobs is glad Native groups won’t have to wait for an invite to future meetings between the premiers.
Jacobs says the premiers today heard reports from national symposiums held over the last year on Aboriginal economic development, health and women’s issues.
She hopes to see measureable progress made on the reports’ recommendations by the time Aboriginal leaders meet with the premiers next year.
