A series of workshops on Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS and their prevelance in the Aboriginal population are being held this week in the province.

The All Nations Hope AIDS Network is hosting the events.

Spokesperson Leona Quewezance says the first of three workshops began this morning in Regina.

The keynote speaker for today’s gathering is Dr. Gilles Pinette, who Quewezance describes as the face of Aboriginal medicine in Canada.

Quewezance says Dr. Pinette is best known for incorporating his knowledge of the Medicine Wheel and other traditional Aboriginal health teachings with western medical training.

She says the goal of the day-long workshops is to increase awareness, prevention, treatment and harm reduction.

Similar workshops are scheduled to be held at the Travelodge Hotel in Saskatoon tomorrow and at the E.A. Rawlinson Center in Prince Albert on Wednesday.
