An entire First Nations community is getting behind one man’s quest to help his younger brother.
Harvey Knight’s brother, Vernon, is in hospital in Edmonton awaiting a liver transplant because he has cirrhosis.
Knight says his brother is in stable condition, but he needs a transplant soon.
Four people have come forward wishing to be living donors.
They will have to undergo tests to see if they are suitable.
Knight is spearheading fundraisers at their home community of the Muskoday First Nation.
He says his brother and wife still have to pay their bills, plus pay for accommodations in Edmonton.
A supper with a loonie and silent auction will take place at the Muskoday band hall tonight, beginning at 5:30.
There will also be an item bingo and raffle on February 20th — and next month, the Knight family is hosting a supper featuring live entertainment by the musical family.
Knight says he is overwhelmed by the amount of support already shown by businesses and community members.
He says it really lifts his brother’s spirits and gives him hope.
