Two of the 3 men accused of causing the death of a Montreal Lake resident have had their assault charges upgraded to murder.

Brian Henderson, Ryan Bird and Bradley Henderson all sat quietly in court this morning as the charges against them were read off.

The 3 men have been in police custody since the weekend of July 3rd after an incident on the Montreal Lake reserve resulted in a death.

Officials with the RCMP say officers were called to a residence on the reserve where they discovered a 33-year-old man in need of medical attention.

He died of his injuries a short time later and was subsequently identified as David Bradfield.

Each of the accused was initially charged with assault causing bodily harm. However, those charges have now been upgraded for 2 of the men.

Brian Henderson and Ryan Bird now faces a single charge each of second degree murder, along with the original count of assault causing bodily harm.

The case against Bradley Henderson remains unchanged.

The men have received separate lawyers to deal with the case.

The judge has adjourned the matter until September 3rd.
