A Liberal politician from northern Saskatchewan says he cannot support a bill currently before Parliament that states everyone should have the right to hunt, fish and trap.

Gary Merasty says he worries the recently-introduced Bill C-222 is a piece of legislation that could someday erode First Nations and Metis harvesting rights.

While Merasty doubts the bill will actually get passed, he says the danger it poses is too large to ignore.

Merasty says the bill was thrust upon Opposition members with little notice, meaning its full impact may not truly be known.
