Northern Saskatchewan Liberal MP Gary Merasty is slamming the Tories for what he sees as a lack of commitment in yesterday’s throne speech to Aboriginal issues — namely, the failure to mention the Kelowna Accord and the residential schools compensation agreement.

He says, during the recent election, Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised the people in Merasty’s riding that the Conservatives supported the residential schools agreement.

Harper also specifically promised the boarding school survivors in Ile-a-la-Crosse that they would be compensated.

Merasty says the Tories need to be clear about their policy toward First Nations and Metis people.

He accuses the Conservatives of, so far, making only ambiguous statements when asked about their stance on these two agreements.
