An extension has been granted to researchers hoping to see the Timber Bay residential school included on the list of institutions eligible for compensation.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson recently met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, where she presented him with documents detailing the school’s history.

She says she is optimistic the government will agree the school should be on the list.

Cook-Searson travelled to Ottawa in December to examine for herself the information the government had on Timber Bay.

She says they didn’t have very much, and that’s why she’s hoping the band’s records will help turn the tide.
