More Northern Development Funding Announced

Six more projects have been approved under the Canada-Saskatchewan Northern Development Agreement.

The two levels of government are investing just over $570,000. Other funding partners will bring the total investment in the projects to $1.2 million.

The new projects include the training of northerners in front-line tourism jobs, childcare training in Pinehouse and oil field safety training in Montreal Lake.

Another project included in today’s announcement involves the exploration for a potential green granite quarry near Pelican Narrows.

Feasibility studies will also be conducted related to the potential use of bark fungus and burbot liver oil for medicinal purposes.

The five-year development agreement is providing $20 million over five years for northern economic development initiatives. Over $8.6 million in funding has been announced to support 28 projects since the agreement’s inception in 2002.
