Members of the Beverly and Qamanirijuaq Caribou Management Board have radio-collared 17 more animals that frequent northern Saskatchewan.

The work was carried out during the post-calving season in early July.

The collars are designed to help researchers better track the caribou’s movements.

The board’s Tim Trottier says the results have been promising.

However, Trottier notes bad weather this summer halted efforts to do a photo census of the animals.

Meantime, the board says it plans to spend more time commenting on issues that can affect caribou, such as land planning and uranium mining.

The next meeting of the caribou board will take place in early November.
