Two new series of textbooks featuring Aboriginal languages are being unveiled this afternoon in Regina.

The project is the brainchild of the First Nations University of Canada and a publisher at the University of Regina.

The arrangement will see the publication of a series of textbooks for young readers and beginner language learners.

Another series of textbooks will be designed for advanced learners.

The first text includes nine stories for beginners featuring a wide range of Cree dialects — including Plains, Woodland and Swampy Cree.

Plans are in the works to eventually develop textbooks in Ojibway, Nakota, Dakota and Dene.
