Moratorium Proposal to be Debated by Council

The village council in Buffalo Narrows is expected to discuss a proposed two-year moratorium on lot development this evening.

Village administrator Laura Durocher confirms the issue is on the agenda of tonight’s council meeting.

Almost two weeks ago, a motion calling for the moratorium was passed at a public meeting attended by over 100 local residents.

Those that want it say the measure is needed to better assess the impact of a new highway that will link northern Saskatchewan with northern Alberta.

A number of lots have already been sold to Alberta interests, and local residents are worried the prime real estate will be gobbled up before they’re able to take full advantage of the opportunities the new highway will bring.

Mayor Bobby Woods has said that motions passed at public meetings are not binding, and the final decision will be made by village council.

Tonight’s meeting is the council’s first in 3 weeks.
