A resident of northwest Saskatchewan says party-goers are wrecking a site devoted to his late father at Palmbere Lake.

Fred Morin says it was around 10 years ago that an $8,000 monument was purchased to honour the late Louis Morin.

A long-time advocate for Aboriginal unity, Morin worked tirelessly for years on the west side to make things better for northern residents.

The Metis hunter held various public offices with different levels of government and helped found Palmbere Days, an annual Metis celebration.

However, Fred Morin says that recently, some people have been breaking things off the dance hall at the site, and some items have even been thrown at the monument itself.

“People are afraid because of the things that are happening here, like the vandalism and all that. It’s not bad yet, but it’s going to get worse if nothing is done,” Morin says.

Morin says he has even found a shotgun casing beside the monument.

He says he hopes whoever is abusing the site will stop, before something is ruined permanently.
