Montreal Lake Man Gets Seven Years For Abduction

A man from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been sentenced to seven years in prison for kidnapping an 11-year-old girl earlier this year.

21-year-old Linden David Jessie Bird entered guilty pleas yesterday in a Prince Albert court to charges of kidnapping, break and enter, choking to overcome resistance and theft of a motor vehicle.

The charges were laid after a January 2nd incident that saw the girl taken from a home in Shellbrook and then abandoned near Canwood.

The RCMP were notified after the girl walked to Canwood and reported the incident to someone inside a local business.
