The Montreal Lake Cree Nation has taken over Prince Albert Northern Bus Lines.

The band is commemorating the move with special ceremonies throughout the day.

Chief Lionel Bird says the purchase was formally agreed to on December 21st, and gives the band a two-thirds majority share with the other 31 per cent going to two former managers with the bus line.

Bird says negotiations have been underway for the last year and a half.

He says the whole aim of the purchase is to give band members jobs and training.

Bird hopes this latest move by the band helps it break the cycle of financial hardship experienced by so many.

Roger Bird has been named the company’s new manager.
