Saskatchewan Environment Minister John Nilson says his department is taking steps to get a better idea of the air quality in northwest Saskatchewan.
The department has built a mobile testing lab that will soon be taking readings in the region.
Nilson says officials want to get samples of the air now, so they can measure what effects Alberta’s oilsands may be having on the environment on the Saskatchewan side of the border.
The mobile lab is essentially a motorhome outfitted with the latest technology.
Nilson says the information could be a vital tool if the government needs to step to the plate to confront industry.
