MNS Vows To Appeal Injunction

The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan plans to appeal the court injunction that prevented a blockade from taking place on a northern highway last week.

Cameco sought the injunction to prevent the blockade from adversely affecting operations at its Key Lake and McArthur River mine sites.

A Queen’s Bench justice granted the injunction within 24 hours of Cameco’s application.

The injunction prevents the MNS from staging roadblocks on Highways 165, 914 and 910 and from interfering with any of Cameco’s mining or milling operations in the province.

MNS spokesman Ray Laliberte says he’s surprised at how broad the injunction is, but notes his group does have seven days to appeal it.

Laliberte says his organization has learned a lot from this episode, and will adjust its strategy accordingly.
