MNS Treasurer Not Seeking Re-Election

The current treasurer of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan won’t run in the next election.
Ray Lalibete says he made the decision so he could spend more time with his family.
Laliberte is one of only two members of the MNS executive elected in the controversial 2004 vote that is still in office. Interim president Guy Bouvier was originally voted in as the organization’s vice-president. Former president Dwayne Roth resigned last year, while former provincial secretary Ralph Kennedy was forced to vacate his position after being charged with forgery in connection to the last election.
Laliberte says he’s proud of the work he was able to do during his time in office.
Some of the accomplishments he’s most proud of include spending time with Metis elders and helping keep MNS affiliates independent and intact.
He says he’s optimistic about the future of the MNS, despite the turmoil it’s gone through over the past three years.
Laliberte urges all Metis citizens to vote in the MNS election to be held later this year.
