A judicial recount has determined that former Ile-a-la-Crosse mayor Max Morin did, in fact, win a spot on the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan executive in the organization’s election this past June.
Morin has been declared the winner of the race for provincial secretary following yesterday’s recount in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.
His initial margin of victory over Tammy Mah was 46 votes.
After yesterday’s recount, it was 44 votes.
The recount was automatically triggered because Morin’s margin of victory was less than two per cent of the ballots cast in June.
Morin says he’s been anxiously waiting to take office.
Mah says she’s not happy with the results.
She says she’s not sure polling clerks or deputy returning officers know the difference between a spoiled or rejected ballot.
Mah says she will apply to the courts to see those documents.
