MNS Provincial Funding Still on Hold

There’s still no timeline for the restoration of provincial funding to the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan despite a high level meeting yesterday between the province and the MNS.

Aboriginal Affairs minister Maynard Sonntag is reporting that his meeting with MNS president-elect Dwayne Roth and other MNS officials yesterday was a positive one.

The government pulled 400-thousand dollars in funding from the Metis Nation last week over concerns about its recent election.

Sonntag says his department will work with Metis elections officials to define a set of standards that have to be met in order to eliminate any questions about the election results.

Sonntag wants assurances that Roth’s election victory was the will of Metis voters on May 26th.
