A long-time official with the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan has decided to give federal politics a try.

MNS treasurer Allan Morin, originally from Ile-a-la-Crosse, has announced his intention to seek the Liberal nomination for the Churchill River riding.

Morin feels the North needs a representative from the region who will focus on everyday issues.

Morin plans to campaign on a platform of wealth creation for northern communities, and believes he has the clout in Ottawa to make that happen.

Morin joins former Prince Albert Grand Council executive director Al Ducharme as the only declared candidates for the nomination.

Incumbent MP Rick Laliberte isn’t sure if he will seek another term in office.

The nomination meeting is scheduled to take place on April 24th.
