The disputed leadership of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan is giving its blessing to a new election oversight committee announced last week.
The committee and a chief electoral officer, which were selected with the help of the provincial and federal governments, will work towards planning a new MNS election — likely held next spring.
Their task is to run it in a transparent manner following the controversial vote in 2004, while still satisfying the self-governance concerns of Metis leaders.
MNS treasurer Ray Laliberte says this is a process that that Saskatchewan Metis leaders can support.
The oversight committee’s work will include putting together a voters list.
