MNS Lawsuit Greeted With Approval

A disgruntled Metis local president in northern Saskatchewan is welcoming news of the Metis Nation’s lawsuit against the provincial government.
The MNS is suing both the province and investigator Keith Lampard over the conclusions reached in Lampard’s report into the controversial Metis election.
Loon Lake resident Alex Morin says he still hasn’t received an explanation as to why he wasn’t allowed to run as a candidate for area director in Meadow Lake.
Morin says the Metis Nation’s lawsuit means that another independent 3rd party, a Queen’s Bench justice no less, will have to make a decision on the accuracy of the election irregularities mentioned in Lampard’s report.
Morin also says the MNS might end up shooting itself in the foot with this court action, because they might be compelled to produce the ballot boxes at the centre of the dispute — boxes that Lampard was denied access to.
Morin says, for years, he and others have wanted to bring alleged Metis election irregularities to the attention of the courts, but have never had the resources.
