A former electoral officer for the province has been hired to review the recent Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election.

Keith Lampard will begin his probe into the May MNS election, with the results expected to be known by October.

Donovan Young, the Deputy Minister for the department of Aboriginal Affairs, says a review is needed before any level of funding is restored to the MNS.

The province recently cut off $400,000 in funding to the organization, a move that stems from allegations of an election scandal.

Young adds Lampard’s findings will be released to both the MNS and the public when he completes his report.

The Deputy Minister acknowledges that Lampard will not be required to directly report to Aboriginal Affairs minister Maynard Sonntag.

He also cautions that it won’t be the role of his department to determine whether or not a new election should be held. He says that will be for Metis people to decide.
