MNS Announces New Roadblock Date

The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan says it will block commercial traffic on a northern highway beginning this Friday afternoon.
The organization’s roadblock threat on Highway 165 didn’t materialize earlier this week because of the sudden passing of a Metis local president.
But MNS treasurer Ray Laliberte says the peaceful protest will commence Friday at 1 pm at the junction of Highways 165 and 914.
Laliberte hopes Friday’s roadblock will prompt both government and industry to bargain with the MNS.
However, Cameco president and CEO Gerry Grandey says his company will take all legally available actions to prevent any disruption to its Key Lake and McArthur River mine sites.
In a letter written to the MNS, Grandey says that will include holding those responsible for the roadblock “personally accountable”.
Grandey also says he’s “extremely disappointed” with this threat, and believes this civil disobedience will accomplish very little.
