The President of the Metis National Council says it’s hard to know just where the Conservative Party is taking the Kelowna Accord.

Clem Chartier attended a meeting between Aboriginal leaders and Provincial Premiers yesterday in Newfoundland.

Chartier and the others were trying to enlist the help of the politicians in convincing the Federal Government the Kelowna deal needs to be implemented.

Chartier says a lot of work has been done so far and he’s hoping it pays off.

Chartier says he isn’t sure any of the Premiers will battle Ottawa to see the deal completed. But he notes some of them are interested.

That includes, Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert, who Chartier also hopes will agree to a Metis harvesting deal like the one achieved in Alberta.

Chartier says he’s hopeful the Premier will ultimately see the benefits such a deal would bring to the province.
