The president of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan says he was disappointed with last week’s provincial budget.

However, Robert Doucette believes he and the Saskatchewan Party government having been doing good work together, so he is hopeful that will continue.

Doucette says he was disappointed with the budget because he says it didn’t address the issues facing Metis people — such as duty to consult, harvesting agreements, employment and training, and housing.

He was also dismayed that the word “Metis” was only used once in the budget speech.

Doucette says he would have liked more mention of what the province will do to ensure Metis people enjoy the same benefits afforded to every other taxpayer in Saskatchewan.

He also says if the MN-S received more money, he and the executive could better serve the Metis population.
