With the provincial election in full swing, Saskatchewan’s Metis leader is weighing in on what he’d like to hear during the campaign.
Metis Nation – Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette wants to hear what the parties will do for Metis people.
Doucette says a good economy means whoever the government turns out to be can help out.
He maintains “there’s a lot of money being moved around to the various sectors of our province, except for the Metis communities”.
Doucette wants to hear that the parties will work with Metis people to help protect their rights, as well as provide them with resources to do that.
Doucette also wants to know where they stand on other issues, such as Metis harvesting rights.
He notes the provincial government recently signed an agreement with First Nations so they could see more revenues from their casinos — and he says it’s now time to share the province’s wealth with the Metis.
