MLTC Facing Health Funding Shortfall

A $1-million shortfall in the Meadow Lake Tribal Council’s health operating budget could put the squeeze on some existing services.
Marie McCollam, the MLTC’s director of health, says the problem stems from Ottawa’s decision ten years ago to cap funding to the region’s primary health program.
Among other things, the program includes after-hours care for the MLTC’s nine communities, and 21 nurses.
McCallum says she doesn’t see how those services can be offered on a continuing basis without some additional dollars.
She says changes could be on the way if the MLTC doesn’t get new funding from Ottawa by March of next year.
