A prominent tribal chief from northern Saskatchewan says she will be keeping an eye out for any more cuts to First Nations child care or health funding.

Chief Helen Ben of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council says she was disappointed to recently see Ottawa slash its anti-smoking campaign for First Nations youth.

Ben says bands had already been struggling between inadequate health agreements and booming population numbers, and now they are forced to cope with program losses.

She adds First Nations will never make progress on these issues if they don’t know what funding they can count on.
