Missing Women Remembered During March

Marchers made their way through the streets of Prince Albert today to call attention to the issue of missing or murdered Aboriginal women.
The 3rd Annual “Honouring Our Sisters” Memorial Walk began at city hall and ended at the steps of the Prince Albert Grand Council gymnasium.
Northern Affairs Minister Joan Beatty took part in the walk.
Beatty says events like this can help break the cycle of violence against Aboriginal women if everyone listens to the issue and works together.
Participants came from as far north as Sandy Bay for today’s march.
Sandy Bay resident Verna Merasty says it is a deeply moving time for her, and she encourages organizers to keep holding the walk every year.
Organizers were glad many nurses, teachers and social workers took part in today’s event.
