Metis in Beauval will be getting a visit from a government minister this month.

First nations and metis relations minister June Draude intends to answer questions about coal-drilling in the area.

Local Metis leader Alex Maurice recently voiced concerns local residents weren’t being consulted enough over the issue.

He says the government seems to be under the impression that previous consultations over forestry-projects should suffice.

Draude says she understands the coal-miners merely want to explore in the region.

She says the intensity of the project also plays a factor in the matter.

Draude says she’ll meet with the metis the week after next.
