Metis Youth Call For More Decision-Making Power

Saskatchewan’s Metis youth are speaking out and hope their voices will be heard.
About 70 youth are wrapping up talks today in Saskatoon at the Saskatchewan Metis Youth Round Table put on by the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan.
Project coordinator Brennan Merasty says youth have brought up a lot of issues important to them, such as drugs and alcohol, and a lack of funding for youth to be involved in provincial Metis politics or to attend post-secondary education.
Merasty says the days are gone where adults make all the decisions for young people.
He says the goal is to form a provincial youth Metis council and have a representative who sits on the provincial Metis council, as well.
