The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce made history this week when Patti Acaster became the province’s first Metis female Chamber of Commerce president.

Acaster was sworn in to the position during the chamber’s President’s Banquet in North Battleford Wednesday night.

She says she’s proud of her heritage and pleased to be making history in this way.

Acaster hopes to encourage more Aboriginal people to enter the workforce.

She knows firsthand how bad the labour shortage is.

Acaster runs a hair salon in North Battleford, and has been short three employees since last May.
