A meeting will take place in Batoche next week to examine Metis history in the area and land-rights.

John Henikenne of the Northwest Metis Cultural Preservation Society says the event is aimed at giving people a deeper understanding of Metis ties to the region.

He says the Government does not recognize Metis jurisdiction in Batoche and that needs to change.

Henikenne says forest management practices have to implemented in the region too.

The gathering is set for August 31st and September 1st.
