A Metis leader in the province’s northwest says he’s looking forward to the establishment of a cultural sign on the outskirts of La Loche.

Don Montgrand, the president of Metis Nation of Saskatchewan Local 39, says a group of residents in the area have plans to erect a marker bearing the words “Welcome to Dene Metis Land”.

Montgrand figures the sign will encourage tourism in the area and inform visitors of the unique Aboriginal heritage of the La Loche area.

Montgrand also feels the move will be a positive one for everyone associated with the northwest region.

Controversy erupted last year when a similar sign was erected just outside Buffalo Narrows.
