The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan is mourning the loss of a senator.

Roy “Judge” Fosseneuve, a man who was very active in raising awareness for Metis veterans, suddenly passed away Thursday at the age of 73.

He was killed in a vehicle rollover near the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border.

Fosseneuve was a former chair of the MN-S Senate, where he worked to bring awareness to Metis specific rights, and performed cultural ceremonies for many MN-S events.

He received a Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005.

Fosseneuve leaves behind eight children, several grandchildren, and his special friend Paulette Hofkamp.

A memorial service will take place Wednesday in Cumberland House.
