A Metis senator is speaking out against what she feels is political interference from the provincial government.

Senator Nora Cummings of Saskatoon says the province has no business appointing an investigator to examine the recent Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election.

She says any questions or concerns citizens might have with the vote will be addressed at a series of appeal hearings set for next week.

Officials with the province’s department of Aboriginal Affairs have already stated they want to send an observer to the hearings regarding the election.

However Cummings feels that would be a mistake. Cummings says she wishes the government would use the money it’s spending on the investigation into programs and services for Metis.
