Metis National Assembly Back On

After temporarily suspending next month’s Metis National Council assembly and president election, a court in Ontario has now said they can go ahead on certain conditions.

The MNC Assembly will be held in Ottawa on October 13th and 14th, with the election taking place on the first day.

More importantly, ousted MNC president Clem Chartier appears to have won a concession from the provincial Metis leaders that forced him out of office earlier this summer.

By consent of all the parties involved, the court has ordered that the delegates doing the voting need to be elected officials at the provincial level.

Chartier had earlier expressed concerns the delegates would be hand-picked by his political adversaries.
