Metis Groups Mulling Over Delegate Numbers

An old issue concerning how many votes each province Metis organization has at the Metis National Council Assembly is resurfacing.

Currently Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba each have 15 voting delegates — while British Columbia and Ontario are allowed five each.

There is talk of increasing that number to eight so that B-C and Ontario would only need the help of one Prairie province to pass a vote.

Metis Nation of Saskatchewan president Robert Doucette says the issue will have to be dealt with eventually, because of the growing Metis populations in B-C and Ontario.

Doucette says his provincial council has already discussed the issue this year.

He says council members are taking the issue to their constituents right now.
