Over 2,000 people are expected to take in the 10th Annual John Arcand Fiddle Fest, which begins today just outside Saskatoon.

The four-day event features workshops, concerts, dances and competitions in fiddle music and Red River jigging.

Organizers say the highlight of this year’s fiddle fest will take place Saturday night, when Arcand is joined by seven young fiddlers who have grown up in his festival

It’s been a big year for the Master of the Metis Fiddle.

Just before Canada Day, Arcand learned he was awarded a membership in the Order of Canada for his work preserving the culture and traditions of Metis people, and for promoting harmony among cultures.

His wife, Vicki Arcand, says the news touched him deeply.

The investiture ceremony is expected to be held in the fall.
