Legendary Saskatchewan Metis fiddler John Arcand has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award by the Saskatchewan Arts Board.

Arcand, who hails from the Saskatoon area, is up against 7 other nominees for the award.

Arcand has been a master fiddler for decades, and first took up fiddling at the age of 6.

He’s currently working on his 9th album, and is making plans to host the 7th annual John Arcand Fiddlefest this summer.

Meantime, 26-year-old La Ronge poet Sheri Benning is also up for a Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award for her literary work.

She has already won 2 Saskatchewan Book Awards and is the co-founder of the Jackpine Press publishing company.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards will be handed out at an event in Kinsmen Park in Saskatoon on May 7th.
