Metis Electoral Reform Commission Issues Report

The Metis Electoral Consulation Panel is calling for another Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election as soon as possible.
That’s one of the three main recommendations in a report it presented to the provincial government today.
The panel, led by Metis academic Maria Campbell, is also calling for a reform of Metis electoral and governance systems.
As well, it wants to see an independent electoral reform commission created that would include Metis and government representation.
MNS president Dwayne Roth says he’s all for electoral reform and a new election, but doesn’t like the idea of outside bodies helping run Metis affairs.
Panel member Joe Daigneault says Metis citizens the panel talked to weren’t in love with that option either, but felt they had no choice given the history of MNS elections.
The provincial government is promising an official response by the end of the summer.
