Metis Election Commission Hears Roth’s Appeal

The Metis Elections Commission in Prince Albert has finished hearing the appeal of MNS president Dwayne Roth.

Roth finished ahead of fellow challenger Robert Doucette by a margin of 26 votes in this spring’s Metis election.

Today, Roth argued before the three senators making up the commission that procedural irregularities had occurred in the Saskatoon district during the election.

He says if it hadn’t been for those irregularities, he would have finished with a larger margin of victory.

Roth will now wait for the results of his appeal to be ruled upon by the commission, but not before sitting through the hearing of Robert Doucette — which is taking place this afternoon.

Roth says he has worked hard to refute many of the allegations made before the commission this week, including the ones centering around voting results in Maymont, Denholm and Wilkie.

Votes taken from those stations exceeded the actual amount of people said to be living there by the bureau of Statistics.

However, Roth says the government’s figures are wrong.

After today, the senators will take a few weeks to decide on the appeals and if any results from the latest election should be overturned.

It’s not known yet when those decisions will be released.
