The Liberal candidate in the Churchill riding defended his stance, today, on a fair compensation package for Ile-a-la-crosse residential school survivors, after taking flack from the Northern MP.

Gary Merasty responded to comments made by MP Jeremy Harrison earlier this week, about the liberal candidates’ campaign efforts for fair compensation of Métis survivors in Ile-a-la-crosse.

Merasty says, if elected, he will force the issue to move forward and have those survivors included in the deal.

Merasty added that Harrison can easily make empty promises when not in power and questioned if the Conservatives would remember those same promises to aboriginals if elected.

Harrison criticized Merasty earlier this week, saying the liberal government made it clear that they were not including the students in the package. He went on to say only a Conservative government would compensate the survivors of the Ile-a-la-crosse boarding school.
